On day 1, we talked about why LinkedIn newsletters aren't "real" newsletters. You can't see emails, no automations, no integrations.
But that's not the whole story. They still have one thing going for them: more guaranteed reach than a regular post.
Here's how I think about the tradeoff.
Posts: high ceiling, low floor
A LinkedIn post can go viral. It can also reach almost no one. The algorithm decides. You have 5,000 followers and your last post got 87 views? That's normal.
But posts are cheap to make. You can write one in 10 minutes. With a LeadShark MCP(check the doc here) connected to Claude, you can go from prompt to draft to scheduled post without copy-pasting anything. (Kondo MCP does the same on the messaging side, so your DMs don't get neglected either.)
This is why I post daily. The cost per post is low enough that the algorithm hits don't matter. You play the volume game.
A LinkedIn newsletter rarely goes viral. But your followers get a notification when you publish, and a portion of them get it bundled into a LinkedIn email digest.
In my own newsletter (just over 1,000 followers), around 30% land in someone's inbox. That's 300+ guaranteed impressions instead of whatever the algorithm decides today.
The catch: writing a newsletter takes real effort. The editor is clunkier, formatting is harder, and there's no MCP to automate the workflow. You actually sit down and write it.
This is why I publish newsletters less often. The cost per piece is high, so each one needs to be worth the time.
The setup that works
→ Daily LinkedIn posts. Cheap, frequent, MCP-assisted, play for upside.
→ Less frequent LinkedIn newsletters. Slower, deeper, longer-form, play for the guaranteed reach.
You don't pick one. You pick what each format is good for and use them differently.
And the best part: it's free. No ESP, no domain, no Stripe account, no infrastructure. If you're not ready for a real email list yet, this is the lowest-friction way to start owning a piece of your audience on LinkedIn itself.
