Hi {{ first_name | friend}},
Ever feel trapped inside your email platform?
You build an audience there… but can’t move them anywhere else.
That’s one of Substack’s biggest drawbacks, no automations, no segmentation, no easy way to integrate with tools like Kit or beehiiv.
But recently, I noticed how Dickie Bush and Nicolas Cole handle this inside their Write With AI Substack (which has made well over $100,000).
And it’s genius.
Here’s what they do 👇
1️⃣ They send free gifts to their paid subscribers on Substack.
2️⃣ To receive the gift, readers must fill out a short form.
3️⃣ That form automatically adds them to their main email service provider (outside Substack).
4️⃣ Once there, subscribers enter a segmented backend system, tagged, nurtured, and followed up automatically.
So even though Substack lacks automations, they’ve turned it into a top-of-funnel machine.
They use Substack for discovery, and their real ESP (Kit or beehiiv) for conversion.
It’s a reminder that strategy beats software every time.
👉 If you want to see the Loom or Tella recording I made breaking down this exact sequence, comment substack and I’ll send it your way.
Or subscribe at leadletters.digital to read or listen to Lead Letters, short lessons on newsletters, lead magnets, and automations, delivered directly to your inbox.
